
1. The SS Nomadic ( keel no 422 ) was built alongside the Titanic in 1911 , she had her sea trials on 16th of May that year and left Belfast on her maiden voyage to Cherbourg on 31st May 1911 .
2. She departed Belfast along with her smaller sistership ” Traffic “ , Nomadic was built to carry the first and second class passengers and Traffic was built to carry the third class ( steerage ) and the mail .
3. They both replaced the “Gallic” , which was the only ageing tender that the White Star Line had in use at the port of Cherbourg .
4. The first three years of Nomadics life was quite normal , tendering to the transatlantic liners . Then in 1914 the first world war broke out , she was immediately put to work for the allies and saw service carrying American troops to Brest ( France ) .
5. Nomadic only had two lifeboats , even after the Titanic disaster .
6. Her official call sign signal letters where K L D C . ( Titanics callsign was M G Y )
7. In 1927 she was sold to Compagnie Cherbourghoise De Transbordement and then sold again to the Societe Cherbourghoise De Remorquage et De Sauvetage in 1934 . They renamed the ship Ingenieur Minard .
8. A lesser known fact is where the name Ingenieur Minard comes from , Nomadic was renamed after the brilliant French designer and engineer Paul Minard . He was responsible for designing the deep-water Port of Cherbourg .
9. She was bought at auction in Paris on 26th January 2006 for 250,001 Euros , by the Department of Social Developement for N. Ireland , and it is under this guise that the Nomadic Charitable Trust was formed to oversee the restoration of the last link to Titanic … her little sister … SS Nomadic .
