Work begins on the SS Nomadic

After tendering for the job of cleaning and painting Nomadic`s hull , the company of Jack Tighe ( an very well established firm ) have been awarded the contract . It is believed that it will cost in the region of £ 150,000 for this work , exactly what the trust had budgeted . We all look forward to seeing the old girl shining once again with a fresh coat of paint .

HMS CAROLINE STAYS IN BELFAST

HMS Caroline , the Royal Navy light cruiser that has been in Belfast as a naval training vessel since 1924 , has got the go-ahead to remain where she is in the Alexandra dock Belfast . It was rumoured that when the Royal Naval reserve unit that calls Caroline their home , moves to Thiepval ( Lisburn ) in 2011 , the ship would be on the move elsewhere . Thankfully she will remain where she is , hopefully for the public to view in the near future .

HMS Caroline was built in 1914 at Cammell Laird shipyard Birkenhead . She saw action in the Battle of Jutland in 1916 and was capable of speeds of 30 knots - compared to todays modern warships , that can manage only 26 – 27 knots .

Secondly we would like to welcome on-board the Irish Football Association who are housed in Thomas Andrews residence at Windsor Avenue , Belfast . May you both have prosperous sales !

Our new tinned sweets have arrived , they come in a very attractive tin with Titanic being tendered to by the SS Nomadic at the port of Cherbourg featured on the lid . The sweets themselves are assorted fruit drops , net weight 150gm . Sold at an excellent price , this could be a great stocking filler for Christmas !

TITANIC LAST HYMN PLAYED BY THE BAND

‘NEAR MY GOD TO THEE ! ‘ was the the last hymn played and sung aboard Titanic as she slipped in the icy cold waters. A postcard to mark this emotional event was printed in 1912. White Star Momentos have reproduced the card which has the music and words of the Hymn printed along with a Photo of RMS Titanic.
