INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS
Our apologies for not updating the Editors weekly article on friday ( past ) . The team were on a ” fact finding ” cruise to Cobh . Those knowledgeable Titanic fans amongst you will know that Cobh in 1912 was known as Queenstown , and was the last stop for the R.M.S. Titanic on her transatlantic voyage . We can report that the towns-people were very hospitable , the beers and wines of exceptional quality , the food to be of a gastronomical standard and of course the ship to be amazing !
You can all look forward to an in-depth report in this weeks Editors Article .
W.S.M. EDITOR .

Fred Olsen , the cruise line that has a controlling share in Belfast`s Harland and Wolff shipyard , brought one of the more modern ships of their fleet into Belfast today ( Monday 24th May ) The Braemar, a 28,000 ton vessel carried 1,075 passengers and 400 crew to have a look at the city and I am sure they were happy to spend a pound or two in our wonderful shops , restaurants and bars ! Fred Olsens ships are not strangers to Belfast , last year both the Black Prince and Boudicca paid a visit . Just as a matter of interest , their flagship THE BALMORAL will be running a cruise following the route of TITANIC on the 100th anniversary of the tragic sinking . We hope to see their flagship visit Belfast the following year .

Mein Schiff , a 76,000 ton cruiseship visited the port of Belfast yesterday ( fri 14th May ) . This ship owned by TUI cruises brought 2,681 passengers visit the city . One minor fact about this ship that is not widely known is that she was formerly known as the Celebrity Galaxy , and it was on the Galaxy that the singer Jane Macdonald became famous via the1990`s BBC documentary ” The Cruise “.

On Monday past the Ocean Nova docked in the Port of Belfast marking the start of the 2010 cruise season , here is some information on this little ice breaking cruiseship . This ship delivers clean, crisp Scandinavian styling and a reputation as an excellent ship in the Antarctic. Built to sail the ice-choked waters of Greenland, Ocean Nova’s ice-strengthened hull has enabled the ship to park in the ice of the Weddell Sea!
