This post is just to keep the interested public and White Star Line fans updated as to the condition and progress of Titanic`s tender the SS Nomadic . As you may or may not know , the SS Nomadic is the last surviving White Star Line vessel , she is currently in the Hamilton Drydock in Belfast awaiting full restoration .
The ship is being managed by the Nomadic Charitable Trust , a body made up of interested parties from all walks of life , Harbour Commisioners , Senior Police Officers , Politicians and Belfast Industrial Heritage to name but a few . They are overseeing the fundraising and eventually the full restoration of the vessel .
What everyone has to understand is that the process will not be quick , it is not just a matter of ” slapping a few coats of paint on the hull “ , restoring a vessel of this magnitude requires carefull planning which in due course will lead to tendering for every piece of work that is involved in the restoration . The Trust have recently released part one of the conservation plan to restore the Nomadic , it is quite comprehensive , but as you read it it becomes very clear that there will be a lot to do .
At present the job of gathering tenders will be the next priority and it has been stated by the Nomadic Charitable trust that they expect work to begin on the ship early in 2010 . We at White Star Momentos will strive to be the first to keep you updated on any new restoration work and will be bringing you photos as well a detailed written reports on how the restoration is going .
